Craig Federighi said the new assistant will maintain boundaries rather than encourage personal disclosure. Greg Joswiak said Apple wants the technology to stay in the background.
9to5mac.comCraig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of engineering, said the upgraded Siri for iOS 27 will resist users’ attempts at romance. He made the statement in an interview with the podcast Mostly Human alongside marketing chief Greg Joswiak. Federighi noted that many existing chatbots focus on engagement and sycophancy to pull users in.
He added that other AIs encourage users to reveal more about themselves to establish a connection. Apple designed Siri to maintain boundaries, Federighi said. “Siri really wants to say, ‘Listen, that’s not what I’m here for, right?
I’m here to help you. I can help you get things done,’” he explained. Greg Joswiak said Apple wants its technology to disappear into the background so users can focus on tasks or content. The company does not want users to become prompt experts to get the most out of Siri, he added.
“We want to meet them where they’re at,” Joswiak said. ” Apple introduced the new Gemini-powered Siri at WWDC in 2024 after nearly two years of delays, Engadget reported. The assistant will integrate into Apple’s mobile platform and apps including Camera and Photos.
It can search the web, understand on-screen context, and use personal information for tasks. A dedicated Siri app will also be released, allowing users to interact through text and voice.
