Apple overtook Nvidia on Friday to become the world's most valuable company. Its market capitalization reached $4.88 trillion while Nvidia's stood at approximately $4.86 trillion after a 3.5 percent share-price decline. The change occurred during intraday trading as Apple shares held steady and Nvidia shares fell as much as four percent before recovering later in the session.

Both companies traded near parity by the close. Apple last held the title in April 2025, according to The Guardian. Nvidia assumed the top position earlier in 2025. Nvidia's stock has risen more than 1,200 percent from a split-adjusted price of $14.86 in January 2023 to around $205 by mid-July 2026.
The company executed a 10-for-1 stock split in June 2024. Apple's shares have risen about 20 percent since late June. The company unveiled a redesigned Siri in June 2026. Nvidia's graphics processing units, originally developed for video games, serve as primary hardware for training large language models.
Apple has focused on integrating AI features into existing products rather than developing its own large language models.
