Apple Plans Auto-Deleting Chat Option for Updated Siri
Bloomberg reported that the next version of Siri will let users choose how long chat logs are retained. Options include 30 days, one year, or permanent storage.
EngadgetBloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reported that Apple will add an auto-delete setting to its updated Siri app. Users will be able to select whether conversations are kept for 30 days, one year, or indefinitely. The same report stated that Apple will also give users a choice on whether each new Siri session begins with context from prior chats or starts fresh.
Gurman noted that the company has long favored synthetic data over real user conversations when training its AI models.
Gurman wrote that Apple views privacy protections as built-in features rather than optional modes. The company has previously avoided supplying chat logs for legal proceedings, unlike some competing AI services. The updated Siri is scheduled to appear at WWDC2026, which begins June 8.
