Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the second-generation iPhone Air, code-named V62, will add an ultrawide rear camera. The device remains in advanced testing with a planned release in spring 2027.
forums.macrumors.comBloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans to release the second-generation iPhone Air in spring 2027 with a second rear camera lens. Current prototypes of the model, code-named V62, include an ultrawide-angle rear camera, and the device is currently in advanced testing. Apple released the first-generation iPhone Air in September 2025.
That model has a single rear camera lens with a 48-megapixel sensor that can produce a 12-megapixel image at the equivalent of 2x optical zoom. The first-generation iPhone Air drew complaints over its single camera despite its thin design. com reported that even admirers of the phone noted the limitation, especially when compared with the more affordable iPhone 17, which has two lenses.
Gurman said the second-generation model will add a second lens while otherwise maintaining the current design. He also reported that Apple wants to increase battery life, though space constraints may limit any larger cell. The second-generation iPhone Air is not expected this fall.
Com reported that Apple may instead release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a first folding iPhone, possibly called the iPhone Ultra, in September 2026. In spring 2027, Apple may deliver the regular iPhone 18 alongside an iPhone 18e budget model and the second-generation iPhone Air. Gurman said a 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip is expected for the new Air model.
