The VergeApple held its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on June 8, 2026. The company introduced Siri AI, an upgraded version of its voice assistant that supports back-and-forth conversations with detailed and engaging answers. Apple AI head Mike Rockwell said during the keynote that Siri AI offers the ability to have back-and-forth conversations with detailed and engaging answers.
Siri AI is powered by the latest version of Apple Intelligence, which Apple worked with Google to build. The system uses onscreen awareness to pull context from what is on the screen to answer questions. Apple is launching a standalone Siri AI app where users can access conversation history.
Siri AI will roll out across the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. In iOS 27, users can access Siri AI by swiping down from the Dynamic Island, where responses will also appear. iOS 27 includes a Siri Mode in its Camera app that can recognize objects in the viewfinder and tell the user more about them.
IOS 27 adds a new opacity slider for the Liquid Glass design. The operating system will be supported by the iPhone 11 and newer models. macOS 27 is named Golden Gate and builds Siri into its Spotlight menu.
MacOS 27 allows users to ask questions directly in the Spotlight search bar and select files to ask about. The update also allows adjustment of the Liquid Glass design with a new slider, makes the window corner radius tighter, and brings back colorful sidebar icons. Safari is getting an AI tab management feature that organizes open webpages by topic.
The browser will include a Notify Me feature that alerts users to changes on a webpage such as a product coming back in stock. Safari can automatically update compromised passwords for users and create extensions by users describing them with natural language. Messages will suggest photos to share based on conversation content.
The Phone app can present relevant information such as a flight confirmation code when a call starts. Mail will offer more capable suggestions and allow users to add events to Calendar by describing them. The Home app can generate descriptions of camera clips, stitch together footage from different cameras with AI, view recorded clips in 4K on supported cameras, and search clips with natural language.
Apple's updated parental controls allow parents to choose which apps and content a child account can access and require the child to ask for permission before opening a new website. Apple redesigned its Screen Time menu to make it easier for parents to manage kids' phone time.
