Apple Unveils New Siri Features at WWDC but Stock Falls, EU/China Rollouts Delayed
The company introduced a more conversational Siri AI along with new parental controls at its June 8 event in Cupertino. Leadership transition and regional rollout limits were also announced.
notebookcheck.netApple introduced a revamped version of its virtual assistant Siri at the company’s developers conference on June 8, 2026, held at its Cupertino headquarters. The new Siri can pull details from photos, messages and the web, split bills from a receipt, and offers customizable voices.
Users can reach the assistant by pressing a side button, saying “Hey Siri,” or querying within the Spotlight search tool.
Apple also released a standalone Siri AI app that collects all AI conversations in one place. Siri AI will launch in English later in 2026. It will not be available initially in the European Union on the iPhone and iPad, and neither Siri AI nor other Apple Intelligence features will be offered in China while the company addresses regulatory requirements.
Apple executives stated that information shared with Apple Intelligence will not be stored or accessible to the company. The company also announced expanded parental controls. Parents will be able to manage which websites and apps their children use and set “time allowances” for entertainment, games and social media.
Apple is broadening a safety tool that blocks gore or violent images sent to children via messages. The new tools are described on a dedicated child-safety webpage. Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook plans to step down in September and hand leadership to John Ternus, senior vice president of hardware engineering.
