Apple is preparing a software update that will adjust elements of its Liquid Glass design without replacing the interface, according to a report. The company introduced the new look across iOS, iPadOS and macOS in September alongside the iPhone 17 lineup.

Apple described the design as intended to convey that its devices are a single piece of glass and to direct attention toward on-screen content. In response, the company has already issued several small adjustments, including an option for users to disable certain transparency effects.

The designer who led the project has also left the company. A new report indicates that the forthcoming update will focus on shadows and transparency quirks, particularly in the macOS version. Those elements drew stronger complaints on the larger displays of Mac computers.

The design had been created primarily for the OLED screens used on iPhones and other portable devices, which differ from current MacBook displays.

Separate from the interface changes, the next software versions will include performance and battery life enhancements. The company is also preparing an updated version of Siri that incorporates new artificial intelligence capabilities. Apple has discussed such improvements for several years.

The changes are scheduled to be presented at the Worldwide Developers Conference, set for 8 June. The event is Apple's annual gathering focused on software updates for its platforms. The company has not issued a public statement confirming the planned adjustments.
