Argentina announced the construction of a new nuclear reactor in Buenos Aires. The project is backed by $1.2 billion in US money, Semafor reported. Britain extended the operating life of the Sizewell B nuclear reactor until 2055.
The plant had been scheduled to run until 2035. BloombergNEF projected that global nuclear capacity will increase 44 percent by 2036. Aggressive reactor construction in China and India is expected to drive the growth.
China had 59 gigawatts of nuclear reactors under construction in 2025. That amount of capacity is enough to power around 50 million homes. China is on track to surpass the United States as the world’s biggest nuclear nation by 2030, Semafor reported.
