Argentina requires non-residents without permanent residency to present health insurance that covers their entire stay, including basic care, hospitalisation, emergencies and medical evacuation, or face possible refusal at the border. The rule took effect in July 2025 as part of the country’s 2025 migration reform.

Panama’s digital-nomad visa demands private international health insurance valid throughout the stay.

Short-term travel insurance does not qualify; the policy must provide medical care inside Panama and, in some cases, evacuation. Officials review the document during the application process. Brazil’s VITEM XIV digital-nomad visa similarly requires insurance valid in Brazil that includes hospitalisation and medical evacuation.

Applicants must submit proof when filing from abroad, and policies must meet minimum coverage levels with treatment available inside the country. Chile and Mexico commonly request proof of health cover in residency files even without a single headline statute, and consulates may ask for it during processing.

Travel insurance frequently fails to meet the specifications set by these immigration authorities.
