Arizona Cardinals Scouting Director Suspended Indefinitely for Gambling Violations, Denies Involvement and Seeks Appeal

The NFL suspended Arizona Cardinals director of college scouting Ryan Gold indefinitely on July 17 for violating the league's gambling policy. An investigation found that Gold provided confidential, nonpublic information on the Cardinals' 2026 draft selections before the picks were announced and that he participated in parlay bets on NFL and college games.
The league said its review, which included interviews and electronic records, found no indication that any other Cardinals employee, coach or player knew of or took part in the activity.
The NFL also stated that no play or game outcome appeared affected. The Cardinals fully cooperated with the inquiry, the league said, and the team issued its own statement the same day supporting the suspension. Gold's attorney, Mike Caspino, responded on July 19 that the accusations were blatantly false.
Caspino said Gold's wife placed $10 weekly parlay bets with a group of high school friends and that Gold had no involvement. He added that Gold could not have disclosed the draft picks because only owner Michael Bidwill and general manager Monti Ossenfort knew the selections in advance. Caspino said Gold has demanded an appeal.
Gold is in his 13th season with the Cardinals and was promoted to director of college scouting in June 2025 after serving three years as assistant director and four seasons as a scouting coordinator.
