Arizona Inmate Files $25 Million Lawsuit Against Pima County Sheriff
Steven Kenneth Fox alleges he suffered nerve damage after a spider bite went untreated and that officers threatened his safety at the Pima County Jail. The suit names Sheriff Chris Nanos and health care provider NaphCare as defendants.

Fox wrote that a brown recluse spider bite on his leg was left untreated for five or six weeks. He stated that an officer told him to "let it f burn" when he requested treatment, and he now claims lasting nerve damage.
Fox also alleged that an officer posted a message accusing him of stealing login details, phone calls, and visitors, which he said placed him in physical danger. He claimed the posting resulted in black eyes and weeks of pain.
Fox further alleged that during a period in isolation he was denied a shower and exercise for 127 hours. " The lawsuit also names NaphCare, the jail's health care provider, as a defendant. A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff's Department declined to comment because of the pending litigation.
Fox filed an earlier lawsuit against Nanos in February alleging excessive force and denial of medical aid. A separate inmate, Christopher Michael Marx, filed suit in March claiming a deputy failed to follow COVID-19 protocols. Nanos is leading the investigation into the January 31 disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old Tucson resident.
The case remains unsolved after more than three months. The Arizona Republic reported in March that Nanos had discrepancies on his resume regarding prior employment. The Pima County Board of Supervisors later referred possible perjury allegations to the Arizona attorney general.
