The governor of Arkansas issued a proclamation on May 27 designating June 2026 as Fidelity Month. The document states that the United States was founded on principles of faith, liberty and patriotism and cites references to God in the Declaration of Independence along with comments from President George Washington on virtue and morality in self-government.

It also states that Fidelity Month offers residents an opportunity to reflect on and renew their commitment to those values.

Several Republican-led states have promoted alternative observances centered on faith, family and traditional social values while Democratic-led states and cities have used June to highlight LGBTQ+ initiatives and Pride Month celebrations. Newsweek contacted the governor by email early Monday for comment.

In California last month, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation declaring May 22, 2026 as Harvey Milk Day. In Boston, the city administration has announced support for a Trans Period Pride event scheduled for June 17 at a branch of the Boston Public Library, according to reporting by the Daily Mail.

Lee signed a resolution on April 9 after it passed both chambers of the Republican-controlled state legislature. First introduced in 2025, the measure describes the nuclear family as the basic building block of Tennessee society. Governor Kay Ivey declared June Strong Families Month, framing the initiative around the importance of stable households in supporting children's development.

Ivey's office pointed to data suggesting that nearly one-third of Alabama children live in single-parent or unmarried-couple households. The proclamation coincides with Father's Day in June and highlights the role of fathers in leadership, protection and support within the household.

Alabama has also partnered with national initiatives focused on child welfare and family stability.
