New York PostThree armed masked men broke into a rental home in Cannes early Thursday morning and held Shahab Elmi, Durana Elmi and their two minor children at gunpoint, the New York Post reported. The intruders stole millions in jewelry, goods and cash, including a Richard Mille watch worth more than $500,000 and $200,000 in cash.
The Elmi family had rented the home for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
A representative for the family said the couple attended evening meetings at the festival before the invasion occurred. The representative added that the family is safe and requested privacy to recover from the event. Shahab Elmi and Durana Elmi co-founded the San Diego-based plant-based supplement company Cymbiotika in 2018 with Chervin Jafarieh.
The company has placed products in every Target store nationwide, raised $25 million in recent funding and drawn investments from Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Zac Efron, according to the New York Post. Durana Elmi met Oprah Winfrey during the festival and posted on Instagram that there is “something extraordinary about women coming together with intention,” the New York Post reported.
The family representative noted that the meeting fulfilled a childhood dream for one of the co-founders.
