Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party won more than 50 percent of the vote in parliamentary elections held June 7, 2026. After more than 94 percent of ballots were counted, the Central Electoral Commission reported that the pro-Russian Strong Armenia party, led by Russian-Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, received 23 percent.

” The prime minister added that he hoped the result would prompt a positive response from Turkey and Azerbaijan.

He said he wanted to “institutionalize peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan” and pledged to continue rapprochement with the West while maintaining relations with Russia. The vote tested Armenia’s direction between closer ties with the European Union and the United States, promoted by Pashinyan, and preservation of close ties with Russia, advocated by the opposition.
