Gen. Christopher Donahue will step down next week after less than two years leading U.S. Army Europe and Africa. His deputy will assume the duties while the Army reviews senior officer positions.
The HillGen. Christopher Donahue will relinquish command of U.S. Army Europe and Africa on July 2, 2026, an Army spokesperson said. He also serves as commander of NATO’s Allied Land Command. His deputy, Maj. Gen. Christopher Norrie, will assume the duties immediately after the change.
The Army did not provide a reason for the move. A Department of Defense spokesperson referred questions about Donahue and the broader review of general and flag officers to the Army, which referred them back to the department.
Donahue graduated from West Point in 1992. He previously commanded Delta Force and the 82nd Airborne Division. In the latter role he led security for the 2021 Kabul evacuation. In his current post he supported NATO’s Eastern Flank and oversaw modernization of drone and counter-drone capabilities through exercises such as Project Flytrap.
