Arsenal Beats Fulham 3-0, Leads Premier League by Six Points over City with Three Games Left

Arsenal defeated Fulham 3-0 in a Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, pulling six points clear of Manchester City in the standings. Viktor Gyokeres scored twice, netting the first goal in the ninth minute and the third in first-half stoppage time, while Bukayo Saka scored the second in the 40th minute.

Arsenal scored all three goals in the first half, boosting their goal difference to +41 with three matches left in the season.

Bukayo Saka returned to Arsenal's starting lineup for the first time since March 22 after an Achilles injury, having made two substitute appearances in the last week before the Fulham match. Arsenal lost three matches during Saka's five-game absence but defeated Newcastle 1-0 in their previous league match.

Mikel Arteta started Myles Lewis-Skelly in midfield instead of Martin Zubimendi and replaced Saka at halftime in the Fulham match.

During the game, David Raya tackled Raul Jimenez on the halfway line, Viktor Gyokeres shot at Bernd Leno from 10 yards in the second half, and Riccardo Calafiori's deflected header hit the bar. Viktor Gyokeres has 21 goals in all competitions this season.

Arsenal has never lost a home league game against Fulham in 33 meetings and is leading the Premier League, having not won the title in 22 years.

Manchester City has two games in hand, with five matches left in the season and a +37 goal difference, and is scheduled to play Everton on Monday. Arsenal's Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid is level at 1-1 ahead of the second leg on Tuesday in north London. Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka starred in Arsenal's win against Fulham.

In a separate Premier League match, Brentford defeated West Ham, moving to sixth place in the standings. West Ham is threatened with relegation in the Premier League. In the Championship, Wrexham drew 2-2 with Middlesbrough in their final match on Saturday, finishing seventh and missing out on reaching the play-offs.

Concurrent 2-1 and secured the final Championship play-off spot. Wrexham went a goal down in their match against Middlesbrough and had aimed for a fourth consecutive promotion, with the result being the best in their 150+ year history. Ryan Reynolds issued a statement on social media after Wrexham's match on May 2, 2026.

Reynolds said: 'I am completely gutted by today’s result but incredibly proud of our season. We’ve come a long way in five years and this was the best result in our 150+ year history. More to do. Phil Parkinson, Wrexham's boss, stated: 'This squad as it stands with a pre-season together will be even stronger next year.

Of course we’ll always look to add to that to try and give ourselves an even better chance. It became a bit fragmented in pre-season and in the later stages of the transfer window just because of the people coming in and people going out. So we’ll be stronger as a unit for that and, of course, we know where we’d like to strengthen and what we need to improve on.

We’ll do that and we’ll make this squad as strong as we possibly can to mount a challenge next year. Parkinson also said: 'We’ve taken the fight to the wire and it just wasn’t to be on the day. I don’t think there’s much more we could have asked from the lads against such a good side.

To respond the way we did after going a goal down was a great effort. We didn’t want the season to end because we’ve enjoyed it so much.
