bbc.co.ukAn artist based in Saltash will present a portrait of Chris Parry to his parents during the opening of an exhibition on 28 May. Louise Pasterfield painted the portrait of Parry, 28, from Truro, who died in January 2023 alongside fellow volunteer Andrew Bagshaw while attempting to evacuate a woman from an area of heavy bombardment in eastern Ukraine.
Pasterfield has painted nearly 300 portraits of people affected by the war since Russia's invasion in February 2022. The exhibition, titled Colour and Courage, will be held at St Stephen's Church in Saltash and is free to enter. The exhibition runs from 28 to 31 May.
The opening evening begins at 19:00 BST on 28 May, when Parry's parents will receive the portrait. "These portraits are my way of bearing witness," Pasterfield said. "Every person I paint has a name and a story, and I want those stories to be seen and remembered.
" "Painting his portrait, from a photograph his parents trusted me with, felt like the greatest honour I could offer," she added. Parry's story was featured in the BBC documentary Hell Jumper.
