Asda will adopt Ocado’s Smart Platform technology across its website, app, in-store picking and delivery services starting in 2027. The move is part of a broader turnaround plan at the UK’s third-largest supermarket chain.
The GuardianAsda has announced a partnership with Ocado to deploy the retailer’s Smart Platform technology across its online grocery operations. The collaboration covers Asda’s website, mobile app, in-store picking systems and home delivery processes. Implementation is scheduled to begin in 2027.
The retailer said the technology rollout will first focus on website and online shopping upgrades before addressing in-store picking and last-mile delivery. The company stated that the changes are intended to help stores manage orders more efficiently, improve delivery performance and increase available delivery slots for customers.
““We know that continued success in this highly competitive market is dependent on providing a positive experience for customers every time they shop.””
““We’re delighted that Asda has chosen Ocado to support the next phase of their online growth.””
Allan Leighton returned to Asda in late 2024 after previously leading the company more than 20 years earlier. In March he said the group still had “plenty to do” to improve its performance.
Asda said the retailer will retain full control of its customer offer, pricing and online operations under the agreement. Scheduled home delivery and click-and-collect orders will continue to be fulfilled from Asda stores and existing fulfilment hubs.
Orders placed through rapid delivery partners such as Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats will be picked by Asda using Ocado’s technology and delivered by the third-party provider. Ocado’s fulfilment technology is already used in more than 1,000 grocery stores worldwide and processes more than 70 million orders annually across 11 countries.
