Athletics Beat Yankees 6-4 to Snap Four-Game Skid

The Athletics defeated the New York Yankees 6-4 on May 31, 2026, ending a four-game losing streak. Shea Langeliers, Nick Kurtz and Tyler Soderstrom each hit home runs in the victory at Sutter Health Park. In the fourth inning, plate umpire Adam Beck called a 2-0 pitch from Yankees starter Ryan Weathers to Tyler Soderstrom a strike.

Soderstrom challenged the call. 8 inches low, outside the strike zone. The Automated Ball Strike system experienced a delay during the review. The usual graphic showing the pitch location did not appear on the Sutter Health Park video board.

Beck's strike call was upheld. Soderstrom drew a walk later in the inning. The loss of the challenge did not affect the final outcome of the game. After the game, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said the umpires were told through their earpieces that the call was confirmed.

"The explanation on the field was the umpires were told from the communication upstairs, the controller of the ABS, that the call was confirmed," Kotsay said. Kotsay added that the umpires lacked access to the iPad used for review. "Obviously, they don't have access to the iPad," he said.

"They only have access to the information they're being told through their ear piece. " The win improved the Athletics' record to 28-30. They remained in second place in the American League West behind the Seattle Mariners.

The Yankees fell to 35-23 and stood 1 1/2 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East.
