Athletics Call Up Left-Handed Pitcher From Triple-A Las Vegas

The left-hander is scheduled to start for the Athletics against the Seattle Mariners tonight in Sacramento. The 23-year-old was promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas after a veteran right-hander went on the injured list with right-shoulder tendinitis. The pitcher recorded 56 strikeouts in 38 innings across nine starts at Triple-A Las Vegas this season.

He posted a 4.50 ERA and a 0-2 record during that span.

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay observed the pitcher during spring training and highlighted fastball command as the remaining area of focus. Kotsay stated the pitcher possesses the weapons to pitch in the major leagues. A month earlier, Kotsay noted the pitcher's preparation and knowledge of his own abilities. The manager said the pitcher is advanced in understanding what he does well.

Pipeline ranked the pitcher as the organization's No. 3 prospect. He went 4-1 with a 2.32 ERA at High-A Lansing in 2025 before a promotion to Double-A Midland. The pitcher showcased an upper-90s fastball during 2026 spring training and has mixed in sliders, curves, and changeups from a low arm angle.

The San Diego Padres selected him in the 18th round of the 2021 draft, but he chose to attend UCLA. There he went 6-2 with a 3.47 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 83 innings. The Athletics drafted him in the second round, 73rd overall, in 2024 and signed him for $2 million. He has pitched 150 2/3 innings in the minor leagues.
