washingtontimes.comMets Fall to A's on Defensive Error The New York Mets fell to the Oakland Athletics on Saturday due to an infield error on a potential double-play ball in the second inning.
Marcus Semien fielded the grounder and stepped on second for the force without getting the second out at first. The error allowed the A's to tack on a run. Lindor moved behind Semien as the ground ball approached, leading to the uncovered base.
The Mets had gone 7-11 and lost seven straight games headed into Wednesday’s game.
Lindor Addresses the Play Lindor took accountability for the misstep after the game.
He said, "No miscommunication. He’s one of the best second basemen in the game, and I should expect he’s gonna be there. " The Mets told Joel Sherman that Lindor's play may have been due to his unfamiliarity with his new partner up the middle.
Lindor and Semien did not work together much in spring because of Lindor's hamate situation in February. Lindor had an injury in February.
Background on Positioning and Prior Errors For the last few years, Lindor was pulled all the way up the middle because Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso were on the right side and pushed toward the right field line.
Lindor's muscle memory was that nobody was going to get the ball, so he had to cut it off before it got to the outfield, and he did not break to second base. On April 1 against the Cardinals, Lindor forgot how many outs there were on an easy would-be double-play ball. Later in that game, Lindor was picked off first while focused on his sliding glove.
Francisco Lindor grounds out in the eighth inning against the Athletics at Citi Field on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Queens, NY.
