Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar issued a statement on June 29 warning of alleged efforts to exclude the African Democratic Congress from next year's polls. He urged the judiciary, electoral commission and others to stay vigilant.
app.buzzsumo.comFormer Vice President Atiku Abubakar said on June 29 that he had received credible information about renewed efforts to exclude the African Democratic Congress from the 2027 general election. AllAfrica reported that Atiku, the ADC presidential candidate, made the statement in Abuja through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.
He described the alleged moves as a coordinated onslaught by anti-democratic elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress.
"We are fully aware of their plots. While they seek to sow confusion within the opposition, we know their real target is the ADC because it represents the most credible alternative," Atiku said. He questioned why the APC would pursue such actions if it were confident in its popularity.
Atiku noted that Nigerians face hunger, inflation, unemployment, insecurity and collapsing purchasing power. He said those in public office appear focused on political survival instead. He called on the judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, civil society organisations and the diplomatic community to remain vigilant.
Atiku warned that any attempt to block the ADC would amount to a grave assault on constitutional democracy.
