Attack on Pakistan Police Post Kills at Least Nine Officers
At least nine police officers were killed and eight others abducted in an attack on a police post at a dam project in southwestern Pakistan's Balochistan province. Security forces later recovered the abducted officers and killed 15 assailants during clearance operations.

At least nine police officers, including two officers, were killed in an attack on a police post at a dam project in southwestern Pakistan's Balochistan province, local police and government officials said Tuesday. Local police official Zahoor Ahmad said the attack occurred on Tuesday. The assailants also abducted eight police officers during the incident.
Shahid Rind, a spokesman for the Balochistan government, said all eight abducted officers were later recovered by security forces. Paramilitary, police and counterterrorism personnel carried out joint clearance operations against the fighters, Rind said.
Rind said the operations killed 15 assailants. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. Rind attributed the attack to the Pakistan Taliban, known by the acronym TTP, without providing evidence. Pakistan has for years been battling armed groups targeting state forces, foreign investment and infrastructure projects in the mineral-rich province bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
The TTP, a separate movement from the Afghan Taliban, maintains a presence in Balochistan and has fought for years to overthrow the government in Islamabad.
