Australia Advances to World Cup Round of 32 After 0-0 Draw With Paraguay

Australia reached the World Cup round of 32 on Thursday after a 0-0 draw with Paraguay at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. The match remained physical and low-scoring throughout. Australia controlled much of the first half but could not convert several promising attacks into goals.

Australia created early chances when a forward set up a teammate inside the penalty area, but the shot went straight to the Paraguay goalkeeper. Additional attempts from the right side drew saves without breaking the deadlock. Paraguay improved after halftime and generated better opportunities through an energetic midfielder.

One low shot from distance flashed wide eight minutes from time. In the closing minutes Australia nearly scored when a player split two defenders and fired just past the far post. A late Paraguay effort from the edge of the area was comfortably saved.

The draw gave Australia second place in Group D behind the co-host United States. The team will face the second-placed side from Group G once that group completes its schedule. Paraguay finished with four points and must wait to learn whether it qualifies among the eight best third-placed teams.
