Australia has selected a 13-man squad for its two-Test home series against Bangladesh next month. Captain Pat Cummins, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and spinner Nathan Lyon were named on Tuesday after recovering from injuries that limited their participation in the previous home summer.
The series opens in Darwin on August 13-17 and concludes in Mackay on August 22-26 as part of the World Test Championship cycle. Chief selector George Bailey said the team would not finalize its playing eleven until closer to the matches. Hazlewood, who has taken 295 Test wickets at an average of 24.21, missed the entire Ashes series with hamstring and Achilles injuries.
Scott Boland took 20 wickets in his absence. Bailey noted that Boland had strengthened his case for inclusion among the leading fast bowlers.
Khawaja has retired, leaving an opening at the top of the order. Jake Weatherald has been retained despite modest results in his debut series. All-rounder Cameron Green kept his place after a mixed Ashes performance. The squad also includes Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis and Beau Webster.
Australia currently leads the World Test Championship standings and faces Bangladesh before a tour of South Africa in October.
