Australian Farmer Finds Live Frog in Sealed Bag of Lettuce
A group of housemates in Western Australia discovered a live frog inside a sealed bag of lettuce purchased from a supermarket. The frog was released at a nearby pond after the household named it Greg.
rte.ieAustralian farmer Rhys Smoker found a live frog inside a sealed plastic bag of lettuce while preparing a steak and salad dinner on Saturday in Esperance, Western Australia. Housemate Laura Jones said Smoker brought the bag into the lounge room to show her and her partner Billy Le Pine.
The group laughed at the discovery and named the frog Greg before releasing it at a pond near the house. Le Pine said they played the song Crazy Frog as a send-off tune for the animal. Smoker and his partner Lilli Ashby had purchased the lettuce at a Woolworths supermarket in Esperance the same day.
Woolworths stated the incident was isolated and no other similar cases had been reported. The company said its teams were investigating the matter with suppliers as a priority and provided the household with a replacement bag of lettuce. Five years earlier, a shopper found a 3-meter-long nonvenomous diamond python on a shelf at a Woolworths supermarket in Sydney.
In the same year, another shopper discovered a venomous pale-headed snake wrapped in plastic with lettuce at an ALDI supermarket in Sydney.
