The additional 19 charges were laid against him on April 15 and included 10 counts of shooting with intent to murder and six counts of discharging a firearm with intent to resist arrest, court staff said.
Two gunmen opened fire on a Jewish holiday event in December 2025. The men began their attack by throwing improvised explosive devices toward a crowd celebrating Hanukkah at one of Australia’s most popular beaches, but the devices did not explode, according to court documents.
A larger improvised explosive device was found in the trunk of the son’s car, which had been draped with Islamic State group flags, police said.
Naveed Akram was shot and wounded during the attack. Sajid Akram, aged 50 and father of Naveed Akram, was killed in a gunbattle with police that ended the attack. The massacre was inspired by the Islamic State group, Australian police said.
Naveed Akram was due to appear on Wednesday in Sydney’s Downing Center Local Court via video link from jail. The procedural hearing on Wednesday was scheduled to discuss a gag order suppressing identities of victims and survivors who have not chosen to identify themselves publicly. The police investigation is one of three official inquiries examining the attack.
An interim report in April urged stricter gun controls. The interim report examined how law enforcement and intelligence agencies interacted before the attack. ABC reported that Akram has not yet been required to enter a plea.
The attack marked Australia’s worst alleged terrorist incident and the nation’s deadliest mass shooting in 29 years, according to details in the reporting. Another inquiry forms part of a wider royal commission, Australia’s highest form of public inquiry, investigating the nature and prevalence of antisemitism in daily life as well as the circumstances of the Bondi shooting, with public hearings beginning on Monday.
