Australian Netball Team Names Five Debutants for Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Five players will make their first appearance at the event. They join captain Liz Watson along with defenders Jo Weston and Courtney Bruce, who will each mark their third Games.

Marinkovich made phone calls to inform the players of their selection. She described the conversations with the debutants as emotional, noting tears, silence, and laughter during the calls. Marinkovich said the new group carries responsibility to contribute to the team's legacy. The squad will look to evolve its style of play ahead of the Games.

Garbin, one of the debutants, recalled waiting for a similar call four years ago when she was not selected. She said receiving the positive news this time felt different. Garbin expressed excitement despite a short break after the Super Netball season.

She noted the group has trained together consistently over the past four years. The full squad includes Kiera Austin, Courtney Bruce, Sophie Dwyer, Sophie Garbin, Matilda Garrett, Georgie Horjus, Sarah Klau, Cara Koenen, Kate Moloney, Jamie-Lee Price, Liz Watson, and Jo Weston.
