The Colorado Avalanche re-signed defensemen Brett Kulak and Brent Burns on Friday. Kulak agreed to a five-year contract worth $4.5 million annually. Burns returned on a one-year deal worth $850,000 that can reach up to $2 million with performance bonuses, a source told ESPN.
Contract details and player performance Colorado acquired Kulak last season in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 6-foot-2 player averaged 19:08 of ice time in 27 regular-season games with the Avalanche and 20:37 during the playoffs. Burns, 41, recorded 12 goals and 35 points while averaging 18:52 of ice time over 82 games.

Offseason roster moves The signings follow earlier trades that created salary-cap space. The team traded forward Ross Colton to the Nashville Predators on June 16.
