The VergeAvinox and Gobao introduced motor gearbox units that integrate an electric motor with an electronic continuously variable transmission at the Eurobike trade show in Frankfurt. The Verge reported that the Avinox MG Concept and Gobao X-series units were displayed last week and drew first-ride reports noting quieter and smoother operation than existing Pinion MGUs.
The Avinox MG Concept places the motor and eCVT in a single housing.
Prototype eMTBs from Canyon, Commencal, Forbidden, and Mondraker used the unit at the show, with three employing chain drives and one using a belt drive. Avinox developed the concept in partnership with those four brands. Gobao displayed its X1 and X1P MGUs on a self-branded e-bike.
The X1 is rated at 120 Nm of torque and 1200 W maximum power, while the X1P delivers 150 Nm and 1500 W. Gobao plans to begin mass production of both units in February 2027. Avinox committed to launching its production MG motor in 2027 with torque and power figures expected to match Gobao’s units.
The company launched its M1 drive system two years earlier and the upgraded M2-series two months before June 30, 2026. The Verge reported that the new MGUs allow riders to select a preferred cadence that the system maintains automatically or to define manual gear ratios.
