The Baltimore Orioles placed closer Ryan Helsley on the 15-day injured list Friday with right elbow discomfort, ESPN reported. The move was retroactive to Tuesday. Helsley felt discomfort in his right elbow while warming up during the eighth inning of Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Helsley, 31, signed a two-year, $28 million free-agent contract with the Orioles in December. Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said Friday that Helsley is evaluating options. "He's looking at all his options, getting opinions, gathering information," Albernaz said.
Helsley had previously been on the injured list from May 1 to June 16 with right elbow inflammation. He has converted eight of nine save opportunities this season. On Friday the Orioles recalled infielder-outfielder Jeremiah Jackson and right-hander Anthony Nunez from Triple-A Norfolk.
They also designated catcher Chadwick Tromp for assignment. The Orioles, at 40-48, open a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
