Bangladesh Defeats Australia by 86 Runs in First ODI
Bangladesh posted 8-284 and restricted Australia to 9-191 before rain ended play. The result marked Australia's first ODI loss to Bangladesh in 21 years.
The GuardianBangladesh scored 8-284 after being sent in at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday. Lightning and rain ended the match with Australia at 9-191 from 42.2 overs, producing an 86-run Duckworth-Lewis victory for the hosts. Australia's batting, fielding and bowling all fell short.
Four or five catches went down, and the team lost early wickets including Matt Short on the first ball and Marnus Labuschagne in the second over.
Green finished 52 not out for his fourth ODI half-century. Alex Carey made 47 and Cooper Connolly 35, but none built a substantial partnership. Nahid Rana took 4-41. Mossadek scored an unbeaten 86 off 70 balls after being dropped four times. Najmal Hossain Shanto made 67 and Tanzid Hasan 54 in a 96-run stand.
Acting captain Josh Inglis said the total was disappointing and noted the dropped catches. Alex Carey added that the fielding was sloppy and that the side hopes to improve before the second ODI on Thursday.
