The festival runs from May 12 to May 23. "On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year," Streisand said in a statement posted on the festival's website. She added that she had looked forward to celebrating the films of the current edition and spending time with colleagues she admires.
The Festival de Cannes stated it will proceed with the tribute as scheduled and extended its wishes for a prompt recovery. Actress Eye Haïdara will host the ceremony, which will be broadcast live in France. Streisand is the third recipient of the Honorary Palme d'Or this year, following Peter Jackson and John Travolta.
She did not disclose details about when or how the knee injury occurred or when she expects to resume public appearances.
