Substrate placeholder — needs reviewThe BBC confirmed on Friday that a 46-year-old drag performer born Christopher Dennis will serve as the United Kingdom's first Eurovision spokesqueen. The performer will present the UK national jury's voting results live from Salford during Saturday evening's grand final in Vienna. The appointment marks the first time a drag performer has held the role for the UK.
The performer reached the final of RuPaul's Drag Race UK series six and became a fan favourite. The performer has also appeared on Britain's Got Talent and featured in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie alongside Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. The performer finished fourth on Queen of the Universe, hosted by Graham Norton.
Last year the performer joined the cast of Strictly Come Dancing and was partnered with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec before withdrawing because of injury. The performer has frequently spoken about a love of Eurovision and described the role as a long-held ambition.
“I'm absolutely over the moon to be announcing the UK Jury scores at Eurovision 2026. It's the one night where sequins are en masse, key changes are compulsory, and absolutely anything can happen. So naturally I feel right at home.”
The role continues a tradition of UK Eurovision spokespersons that has included Dame Joanna Lumley, Catherine Tate, Nigella Lawson and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Saturday's final will feature a UK entry by the musician performing as Look Mum No Computer with the track Eins, Zwei, Drei.
The United Kingdom qualifies automatically for the grand final along with Italy, Germany, France and host nation Austria. Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain are boycotting the competition over Israel's participation and concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Bookmakers have identified a Finnish act as the current favourite to win the contest, with performers from Australia and Greece listed as strong contenders.
