Belgium will play without midfielder Amadou Onana for the remainder of the 2026 World Cup after tests confirmed a torn right ACL. The injury occurred early in the round of 16 match against the United States. Onana went down in the 18th minute after colliding with an opposing player while challenging for the ball.
He received treatment on the field, attempted to continue, then left the match in the 21st minute.

Onana left the field on crutches, and the team doctor later announced the diagnosis on Tuesday, July 7. "This is devastating news, both for him personally and for the team," Belgium team doctor Brahim Hacene said. Onana will remain with the squad through the quarterfinals.
Belgium faces Spain in the quarterfinals on Friday, July 10, in Los Angeles. The winner advances to play France in the semifinals on Tuesday, July 14. Onana had appeared in every match for Belgium during the tournament, including two starts.
