M. on Friday to prepare for Durham’s four-day match against Northamptonshire. The 35-year-old all-rounder was stood down from the second Test against New Zealand at the Oval after a breach of team protocols following England’s first-Test victory at Lord’s.
Bowler Gus Atkinson was also removed from that fixture. Head coach Ryan Campbell stated on Sunday, after Durham defeated Derbyshire in the Rothesay County Championship, that Stokes could feature against Northamptonshire. Stokes was subsequently named in a 15-man squad for the match scheduled to begin on Thursday.
The third Test begins at Trent Bridge next Thursday. The Press Association reported that Stokes could return to the England side for that match.
