The Cincinnati Bengals restructured quarterback Joe Burrow's contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Tuesday. The adjustment creates $10 million in additional cap space for the 2026 season. 1 million in effective cap space.

2 million by converting Burrow's entire base salary for the upcoming year. The restructuring was required after the Bengals traded the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft for defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II. Cincinnati acquired Lawrence in the predraft deal.

Joe Burrow signed a $275 million contract extension in 2023. When Bengals de facto general manager Duke Tobin met with reporters in April 2026, he addressed the possibility of altering the deal. "We've layered in challenges, but we're up to them, and we do it because we got the opportunity to add the right people and the right players," Tobin said in April.

"Those are challenges that the locker room isn't interested in. " The Bengals are seeking their first playoff appearance since 2022. Burrow missed nine games during the 2025 season with a turf toe injury.
