vanguardngr.comGovernor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State met President Bola Tinubu on 6 July 2026 at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. AllAfrica reported that Alia briefed the president on the security situation, the return of internally displaced persons, ongoing development projects and the political climate following the state's recent 50th anniversary celebrations.
Alia said security had improved compared to previous months.
He noted that some displaced residents are voluntarily returning to their communities during the farming season, though anxieties remain. "If the IDPs are voluntarily going home, do we still have some anxieties out there? So the answer is yes," he said.
The governor also discussed the political situation after the All Progressives Congress primary elections. He stated that agitations among party faithful would calm down and expressed confidence that the APC would remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections. President Tinubu had visited Benue State one week earlier to attend the 50th anniversary events.
During those celebrations Tinubu commissioned the Benue Food and Fruit Processing Company, while First Lady Oluremi Tinubu commissioned 10 urban renewal roads. The anniversary included an interdenominational thanksgiving service, Alia's 60th birthday and the marking of his three years in office.
