Bethesda Wellness Purchases Land to Expand Health Care Campus in Southeast Manitoba

Bethesda Wellness, a charity based in Steinbach, Manitoba, has purchased seven acres of land next to its existing Stonebridge Wellness Centre property. The centre currently houses services from Southern Health, the regional health authority, as well as private health-care providers.

This acquisition supports the charity's plan to create a comprehensive health care campus serving residents of southeast Manitoba.

The Bethesda Foundation, a sister organization to Bethesda Wellness, receives donations and allocates funds to support the charity's projects. Chris Goertzen, who serves as board chair for the foundation and a board member for Bethesda Wellness, stated that a hospice is among the planned facilities.

He noted that the expansion would provide spaces for short-term care for individuals at the end of life and accommodate private providers seeking to locate on the campus.

Southern Health has relocated some staff from the Bethesda Regional Health Centre hospital to the Stonebridge Wellness Centre property. This move created space at the hospital for a new dialysis unit. Timothy Gosselin, Southern Health's associate chief medical officer, described the partnership as enabling greater flexibility in planning and exploring future health care opportunities.

Eden Health Care Services, which specializes in mental health support including psychiatry, employment, and housing services, is among the organizations considering expansion at the site. Brad Unger, CEO of Eden, highlighted the value of Bethesda Wellness's expertise in planning, construction, and development for service providers focused on clinical and therapeutic care.

The additional land is drawing interest from other groups aiming to enhance their offerings in the region.
