Bipartisan Group of Lawmakers Launches U.S.-Mexico Caucus as State Department Reviews Mexican Consulates

Pete Aguilar (D-CA), María Salazar (R-FL), Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), Greg Stanton (D-AZ), Michael McCaul (R-TX), Veronica Escobar (D-TX), and Don Bacon (R-NE).
The launch is being backed by the American Mexican Leadership Council, also known as AMLC, a new national organization debuting the same day.
U.S. Mexico maintains the largest foreign consular network in the United States. Mexican consulates provide documentation and legal aid to millions of Mexican citizens living across the country, with most concentrated in border states and cities with large Mexican American populations, including California, Texas and Arizona.
The review will examine the operations of Mexico’s consular network, which is the largest in the United States.
In 2020, the Trump administration ordered China's consulate in Houston to close. U.S. ordered Russia to close its consulate in San Francisco along with diplomatic facilities in Washington and New York.

"This is about creating opportunity, prosperity and economic security for communities across the United States," Sergio Gonzales said. "So many of the sectors that drive our economy, from agriculture to finance, innovation, and trade depend on a successful relationship with Mexico.
