winnipegfreepress.comThe Chicago Blackhawks acquired defenseman Bowen Byram and forward Jordan Greenway from the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. In return, Chicago sent defenseman Louis Crevier, 45 NHL draft selections and the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to Buffalo.
Byram, who turned 25 on June 13, recorded 11 goals and 42 points for the Sabres during the 2025-26 season. Buffalo won the Atlantic Division title and reached the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Byram remains eligible for unrestricted free agency after the 2026-27 season.
Crevier, also 25, posted seven goals and 18 assists in 78 games last season. The Blackhawks have not reached the postseason since the expanded playoff format after the 2020 season. Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said the team acquired Byram because he fits the style of play and age range desired for the roster.
"This was just a value that we put on a really, really good young player in Bo that we felt it was advantageous to move on and acquire for our group," Davidson said. Byram said Wednesday that he had been preparing for an opportunity like this for a long time.
Chicago also signed prospect Roman Kantserov to an entry-level contract in May. Byram previously played alongside Cale Makar in Colorado and Rasmus Dahlin in Buffalo. The Blackhawks did not use the No.
4 pick on a defenseman after completing the trade.
