The Toronto Blue Jays are approaching an early-August deadline on whether outfielder Addison Barger can return this season from back and right elbow injuries, Forbes reported. Manager John Schneider said the club must soon decide if Barger can resume activity or shift focus to 2027. "We're still hoping for the best," Schneider said.
"I think we're getting to the point where we either say go or no. Dealing with those two things has been tough. " Barger has not started any level of rehab activity as of July 19, 2026, Forbes reported.
He has taken only 22 at-bats this season. If he begins a rehab plan the week of July 19, his earliest possible return would be mid-August. The Blue Jays are 46-52 and 3.5 games out of the AL Wild Card.
Their playoff probability stood at 18.5 percent after their most recent game. The team has placed players on the injured list 21 times for 19 different players this season. The MLB trade deadline is August 3.
Barger last appeared in a major-league game on August 20, 2025, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
