Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger will be shut down for several more weeks after an MRI revealed a stress reaction in his back. Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Barger felt back pain while hitting at the team's spring training facility in Florida. Barger traveled to Toronto for the scan, which showed swelling and irritation around the bone.
Injury timeline Barger has been out since May 10 with a sore elbow and has appeared in only nine games this season. 045 with no home runs and two RBIs. Earlier this year he played eight games in March and April before missing 29 games with a sprained left ankle.
He returned May 9 and recorded one of the fastest outfield assists of the season before going back on the injured list two days later. Barger hit 21 home runs and drove in 74 runs over 135 games last season.
