@YahooFinance reported that the event highlighted significant updates to the flagship sedan.
Sebastian Mackensen described the changes as a real transformation rather than a refresh. ' The new BMW 7 Series debuts the Panoramic iDrive system, borrowed from the Neue Klasse EV architecture, which projects information across the full width of the windshield. It also features a new floating center display and a redesigned steering wheel.
Additionally, the model includes the brand's first passenger screen. The 7 Series launches with fully electric i7 models, a 6-cylinder gas variant, and a V8 gas variant. The plug-in hybrid 750e xDrive variant will arrive in early 2027.
5 kWh battery with sixth-generation cylindrical cells. The i7 60 xDrive can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes at compatible fast chargers. Mackensen referred to BMW's powertrain strategy as technology openness.
' Mackensen further explained, 'We want every BMW 7 Series customer to get the real deal — a full 7 Series. The only difference is you have electric, you have plug-in hybrid, or you drive with a combustion 6 cylinder or a V8 engine. ' In 2025, roughly 25% of 7 Series sales in the US were fully electric.
Another 7% of 7 Series sales in the US went to the plug-in hybrid in 2025. BMW had record years in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Production of the new BMW 7 Series will start in BMW’s Bavaria plant in July 2026.
Deliveries will begin in the fall of 2026. Pricing for the i7 50 xDrive starts at $106,200. Pricing for the gas-powered 740 models starts at $99,800. The original BMW 7 Series debuted in 1977.
@YahooFinance reported that BMW has treated the 7 Series as its technological proving ground, where ideas start before trickling down to other models.
