Binance's BNB Chain completed a proof-of-concept test that replaced two cryptographic systems with quantum-resistant alternatives. The change increased transaction data sizes and lowered network throughput by roughly 40 percent. 5 kilobytes. Block sizes expanded from roughly 130 kilobytes to 2 megabytes.

The added data volume slowed cross-region native transfers from 4,973 transactions per second to 2,997 transactions per second. Validator vote signatures using the BLS12-381 system were upgraded with an efficient compression method that limited performance loss in that segment.

Ordinary user transactions carrying larger quantum-resistant signatures created the main bottleneck.

Bitcoin developers are considering protocol upgrades such as BIP-360 that would add quantum-resistant protections. Researchers have also proposed emergency workarounds that would function under current rules at higher per-transaction cost. Ethereum has launched a multi-year initiative to upgrade wallets, validator infrastructure, and other network components gradually.

TRON plans to launch a quantum-resistant testnet in the second quarter of 2026 and a mainnet rollout in the third quarter. BSC's test demonstrated that validator systems can be upgraded efficiently while showing that user transaction data remains the primary constraint when quantum-safe signatures are introduced.
