Anastasiia Berezovska, 39, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head in Ukraine on July 7. Ukraine’s Security Service said she was the suspect in a June 29 or 30 parcel-bomb attack in Monaco that wounded businessman Vadym Iermolaiev and two others.
nypost.comThe body of Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39-year-old Ukrainian national, was recovered in Ukraine on Tuesday with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Ukraine’s Security Service said Berezovska was the woman suspected of carrying out a parcel-bomb attack in Monaco on June 29 or 30 that wounded Ukrainian businessman Vadym Iermolaiev, an unidentified woman and an unidentified child.
The SBU said investigators recovered the body during a reconstruction of the crime based on one suspect’s testimony.
Spent pistol cartridge cases were found at the scene. The service said an officer serving in Ukraine’s military intelligence agency confessed to killing Berezovska with the assistance of a former law-enforcement officer, acting without informing superiors. Both men have been detained on suspicion of premeditated murder by prior conspiracy.
The SBU said it established Berezovska’s movements and contacts, including two men who transferred money to her bank accounts. One is a serving intelligence officer in Ukraine’s military intelligence agency; the second formerly served in law enforcement. During searches, investigators found a basement resembling a torture chamber at the former law-enforcement officer’s home.
Berezovska disguised herself as a man during the Monaco attack and fled first to France then to Italy in a rented car, according to the SBU. The attack was the first bomb assassination attempt recorded in Monaco. Iermolaiev’s estimated net worth is $225 million from his company, the Alef Group, which operates in real estate, agriculture and vodka production.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sanctioned Iermolaiev in 2023 over allegations that his alcohol business operated in Russian-occupied Crimea. Iermolaiev denies the allegations and has publicly condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine. He left Ukraine in 2019, became a citizen of Cyprus and resides in Monaco.
His son, Artur Iermolaiev, is a convicted criminal for allegedly leading a fraud scheme.
