Boohoo CEO Ends Remote Work for 1,500 Head Office Staff

Boohoo Group chief executive Dan Finley has ordered the company's 1,500 head office employees to work from the office five days a week. Finley told The Times that remote work can harm business performance and that staff should be present to observe trends and test products. He said employees should be "living and breathing" the city rather than working from home.

Finley stated that in-person attendance helps younger staff learn from colleagues and build relationships. He said the move supports his goal of returning the company to growth and increasing the share price. The company was founded in 2006 by Mahmud Kamani and Carol Kane. It expanded rapidly during the pandemic when online sales increased.

Commerce survey last year found that nearly half of UK businesses wanted employees back in the office full time. Average office attendance in the UK has exceeded 40 percent each week this year, according to Remit Consulting data released in May. A 2024 review of 1,930 studies by the National Institute for Health and Care Research found that remote work can improve diet, reduce stress, and lower blood pressure, but may also lead to longer working hours and fewer promotion opportunities.
