Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) urged the Democratic National Committee on Sunday to make public its analysis of Kamala Harris's 2024 loss to President Donald Trump. Booker, who is up for reelection in 2026, emphasized voter mobilization six months before the next election while expressing support for a competitive 2028 presidential primary.
Washington ExaminerSen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) on Sunday joined former Vice President Kamala Harris in calling for the Democratic National Committee to release its analysis of why Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump. Booker delivered the message during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.
"Release the autopsy," he said, according to Washington Examiner reported. He added that the DNC should be mobilizing voters to see a change this election season. "This is six months before an election," Booker said.
"We need to be mobilizing and organizing in this election. Fine. DNC release it. They should do that. " DNC Chairman Ken Martin decided in late 2025 that he would not release the organization’s autopsy of the party’s 2024 election loss.
Martin called the release a "distraction from the core mission" of the DNC, Washington Examiner reported. He had initially promised to make the 2024 autopsy report public. Harris came out last week with her own call to release the report.
Booker backed the same position on Sunday morning, even as he stressed the primacy of voter turnout over internal reviews. Booker, who is up for reelection in 2026, is largely expected to hold his Senate seat as the presumptive Democratic nominee in New Jersey. The third-term senator has nonetheless signaled broader ambitions.
In late March, Booker said he is "definitely not ruling out" a 2028 presidential run. He previously ran in the 2020 presidential primary against both Harris and former President Joe Biden. Asked about the prospect of Harris seeking the nomination again, Booker said he would like to see a "robust" Democratic primary in 2028.
"I think that it was a disservice to Kamala Harris that we did not have a primary in the last election," he said. "I hope we have the most robust ’28 primary there is, with a lot of great leaders involved in that primary, so that the Democratic Party can choose who’s going to be their standard bearer," Booker added.
Washington Examiner reported that the Democratic field is already shaping up to feature multiple contenders, though Booker centered his remarks on the need for an open process that allows the party to select its strongest candidate.
