356 with a 1.019 OPS, 96 hits, 19 doubles, 50 RBI and six home runs. He was named Summit League defensive player of the year and a Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist as a sophomore.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Schaffner throws right-handed and bats left-handed. MLB.com’s scouting report noted his disciplined approach at the plate and plus running ability, adding that his arm strength may move him to second base in professional play. “A left-handed hitter, Schaffner has good feel for the barrel and focuses on lashing line drives from gap to gap,” the report stated.
