Brampton man sentenced to 20 years in U.S. prison for drug trafficking

, man was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in U.S. federal prison for leading a criminal organization that trafficked methamphetamine and cocaine into Canada. U.S. District Judge John A. Kronstadt imposed the sentence after the man pleaded guilty in March to one count of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said.
Operation details The plea agreement states the organization used long-haul transport trucks to move the drugs from the U.S. into Canada from September 2020 to February 2023. Between Sept. 13, 2022, and Oct. 24, 2022, eight loads totaling 523 kilograms of methamphetamine and 347 kilograms of cocaine were seized by U.S. police.
The wholesale value of those loads was estimated at $15 million to $17 million. The man arranged for the drugs to be transported through trucks and supplied telephone numbers and serial numbers on currency bills for couriers to use as identification tokens.
Case status The man has been in U.S. custody since 2024.
He is the eighth defendant to plead guilty in the case. Other defendants have received prison sentences ranging from more than two years to nine years.
